I'm Dr Corinne Tatem, a HCPC registered Counselling Psychologist.
I am passionate about helping people to navigate life's challenges and discover their resilience. Stemming from my humanistic values, I believe that every person has a natural capacity to move towards growth and healing, and I am here to support you on that journey.
As a Health and Care Professions Council Practitioner Psychologist, I uphold a high professional standard and guided by ethical frameworks to ensure that you receive quality care. This means that I consider evidence-based therapies, and strive for anti-discriminatory and inclusive practice tailored to people's needs.I aim to work collaboratively to help you make meaningful change. As we are all unique, I believe that our contexts and past experiences come together to tell the story of who we are and the things that we struggle with. I believe that therapy should not be squeezed into a “one-size-fits-all” method. This means that therapy should be a place where you feel heard and respected as we develop our therapeutic relationship.
I have four years of practice experience, including working for group private practice, and positions in NHS Scotland, higher education counselling services and in the third sector offering psychological support for the community. Additionally, I have a background working in supportive roles for in-patient services for people in crisis and for people with compulsory treatment orders. I am familiar with the stressors in these environments and the impact it can have on service users and healthcare workers.
I have a special interest in childhood trauma, and socially relevant issues to young people’s mental health. However, I also have experience working with a range of issues including anxiety presentations, depression, self-esteem, navigating relationship issues, self-harm and suicidal ideation and much more. Within my practice I draw from my training in different evidence-based therapies including cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT), person-centred therapy (PCT) supported by experiential techniques, and other third-wave CBT therapies.
I am currently offering remote psychological therapy to adults and young people (age 12+) looking short-term or long-term support.
I use a warm and compassionate stance to help people feel at ease and explore their difficulties. My goal is to co-create a safe, non-judgmental space for you to use, where you can explore your thoughts and feelings, gain new perspectives, and develop effective coping strategies. I start by taking the time to understand your unique contexts and past experiences, as this often weaves together telling a story of who we are and what we struggle with.
If you are looking to take the next step in your mental health journey, please do reach out. I offer a free introductory 15-minute telephone call to answer any questions you may have about therapy, and discuss how I may be able to help. Let’s work together to help you move forward from your struggles.
